Tao Te Ching V, “Heaven and earth are ruthless…”

Do not hope for mercy, even from the sage, for the sage is ruthless. The way is to blunt the sharpness (IV). Instead hold fast to the void, which is the empty space between heaven and earth, and which is like a bellows, like lungs, which are empty and full of breath.

Much speech inevitably leads to silence, which is breath. Hold fast to the void in the face of ruthlessness, breathing; it will blunt, untangle, soften.
